One of Egypt's most established sporting institutions partners with XPay across four years to digitise renewals, integrate with its own member apps, and grow transaction volume 126% in a single year.

At a glance: +126% TPV growth year-over-year (2022) · 1 to 5 online services launched between 2020 and 2023 · 4,000+ unique members transacting each year.

The challenge

Alexandria Sporting Club is one of Egypt's most established sporting institutions, with a sizeable member base and the regulatory rigour of a highly audited community. Going into 2020, the club had almost no digital infrastructure: just a local-machine members database and a desktop accounting application. Members queued at the cashier to pay renewal fees in cash, every transaction was handled manually, and the privacy and security exposure of cash operations grew alongside the member base.

The solution

Over four years, XPay and the club's Membership and IT team rolled out a phased digitisation, meeting the club where it was technologically at each stage, and growing the platform as the club's own infrastructure matured.

2020 · Going digital for the first time

XPay built an end-to-end, member-facing dashboard that connected directly to the club's existing local members database. Members could now log in, see their renewal fees, and pay online, without queuing at the cashier. For the club's accounting and membership teams, every transaction was reconciled automatically instead of by hand.

2021 · Supporting the club's own platforms

When Alexandria Sporting Club hired a software house to build its own website and mobile app, XPay supported the migration end to end, switching its database connection from the local machine to the club's new cloud database, and providing a secure payment iframe embedded directly into the new web and mobile experiences via XPay's APIs.

2022 to 2023 · From one service to five

With infrastructure modernised, the club expanded online payments beyond renewal fees to cover trips, Masyaf, shuttle buses, donations, and sports academies and teams. Member eligibility for each service is checked against the cloud database in real time through the XPay dashboard.

The results

By 2022, the first full year of multi-service operation on XPay, transaction volume grew 126% year-over-year, with services expanding from one to four. Growth continued into 2023, with five distinct online services live and over 4,000 members transacting digitally. Cashier queues for renewal fees were eliminated, audit and security exposure shrank, and the membership and IT team reclaimed the time previously spent reconciling cash payments by hand.

From cashier queues to a fully integrated payments platform

The Alexandria Sporting Club partnership is what XPay's enterprise model is built for: starting with a single online-payment use case, then growing alongside the customer as their infrastructure, services, and ambitions expand, without ever forcing the customer to change payment partners along the way.

"XPay solved how we handle payments inside our community, saving us time, reducing our workload, and letting members pay anytime, from anywhere. Their technical support exceeded my expectations: professional, responsive, and always ready when we need them."
